Client Case Study

Surf Life Saving Queensland

Like many organisations planning to refresh an outdated website, Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) had a substantial ‘wish list’.  The new site needed to be comprehensive in content, but uncluttered in layout. It had to send the right visual messages and complement one of Australia’s best known brands. Most importantly, the website had to be user-friendly for both visitors (members and non-members) and those within the organisation responsible for continually updating information on the site. After several months of development and collaboration, the result was a new look, client-managed website which ticked all of SLSQ’s ‘must have’ boxes and introduced a host of practical new features to add to the organisation’s modern marketing mix.

The SLSQ website now has links to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to provide a further interactive dimension; opportunities to easily showcase special events on the homepage; a handy surf calendar for forward planning; and direct sign-up links to first aid courses, donation forms and membership applications. The site even has a novel facility that allows web visitors to quickly find their nearest patrolled beach.

A key requirement for SLSQ was the ability to manage the website content inhouse rather than engage specialised, external web-masters every time information needed updating or replacing. The client-managed website is both cost and time effective because it allows just this type of editorial control – a major attraction for any not-for-profit organisation or business with a close eye on maximising its IT spend.
