Client Case Study
Wesley Nutrition Centre
Most people who choose gastric banding are looking for a fresh start… so with that in mind, a practical manual to help them with long-term success was designed with a bright, fresh look to encourage healthy decision-making. Resembling a quality recipe book rather than a manual, the booklet Food for Gastric Banding – nutrition and lifestyle solutions by Trudy Williams features beautiful full-page photography and attention-grabbing use of colour. It is full of helpful information, yet takes care not to overwhelm the reader thanks to pleasing page design and the liberal use of white space.
The 80 page booklet covers food and nutrition essentials, eating awareness and ways to strengthen commitment to a healthy lifestyle. As well as to-the-point information, there are worksheets, checklists and room for note-taking. Tips and ‘must dos’ in vibrant red typeface leap out of the pages to attract special attention. The design aspects of this booklet are all aimed at motivation and easy reading.
Trudy’s excellent manual won Highly Commended in the Australian Catalogue Awards and is being sold nationally as an important aid to post gastric banding success. Interestingly, the company that supplied the new line of quality paper used for the manual is also promoting the publication to clients, highlighting what can be achieved when good writing, design, paper and reproduction techniques come together.
Trudy has also won awards with other books created by design by look:
President's Award for Innovation "this=that: a life-size photo
guide to food serves (2005)"
Silver Award and Highly Commended at the Australian Food
Media Awards (2010) in the category "Sydney Markets Award
for Best Health or Specific Diet Book" for "this=that child size"
